T H E D E M O N K I N G A Quake Partial Conversion ===================== This zip file includes: TDK version 1.1 --------------------------------- tdk11.zip Walkthrough of TDK --------------------------- walkthru.txt undetailed map of the TDK area -------------------- map.jpg this text file ------------------------------------ tdk.txt [Introduction] The Demon King is a Partial Conversion of id Software's Quake. The Demon King has 14 new levels, new models, sounds, and effects. The Demon King (TDK for short) is non-linear, meaning all the levels form one cohesive world. Exploration of this world is key to solving the game. TDK has a story and plot that unfolds as you play. You must solve puzzles and find new areas to advance. Blasting away all monsters in your path is not necessary, but it helps. TDK is designed for Single Player gameplay solely and Deathmatch play is not recommended. TDK requires registered Quake. [Installation] 1) Make a directory called TDK off your Quake directory (ex. C:\QUAKE\TDK) 2) Return to your Quake directory (ex. C:\QUAKE) and type QUAKE -GAME TDK 3) Start a regular single player game. [Playing TDK] Playing TDK isn't that different than regular Quake, but there are some exceptions. There are no level endings in TDK, since all levels are non-linear. To "exit" a level, find a black wall and run into it. Most levels have multiple exits and some places can only be reached by certain exits \ entrances. Finding clues and hints is essential to solving TDK, so be sure to keep an eye open for anything unusual. [Impulses & Options] impulse 12 - is the read impulse. impulse 12 again moves to the next page and also to stop reading. To use it, walk right up to a book aim toward it and hit R. By default, this is binded to "R". *************************************************************************** **************IF TDK RUNS TO SLOW FOR YOU USE THIS************************* *************************************************************************** impulse 13 - removes some details, doesn't take effect until a level change and can have a major impact on speed but does make for some odd sights. It may not have any impact on some levels but expect a major improvement in the forest, inchurch, cemetery, start, and church levels, and minor improvements in the castle level. impulse 15 - enables/disables EDCL, default is disabled. impulse 14 - EDCL is a helpful way to avoid unwanted changing of levels. It essentially toggles exits on or off. To use it, bind impulse 14 to a key by typing bind {letter goes here} "impulse 14" at the console. When the exits are on they perform as normal. When the exits are off changelevel will appear on the screen to indicate that you are standing over an exit As soon as you enter a level, exits are automatically disabled. In order to exit the level you will need to hit impulse 14 again to reenable the exits. impulse 20 - Cycle weapons backwards You must set the skill at the console. To do so hit the ~ key to brind down the console and type skill # where # is 0 = easy, 1 = normal, 2 = hard, 3 = nightmare The average player should play on hard. Greyflashes? use: r_maxedges 3000 r_maxsurfs 1500 [Hints] * Just Shooting everything isn't going to be enough to solve TDK. Look around for clues, explore. Think. * If you get stuck, backtrack and look for clues * Explore, explore, explore [Credits] TEAM TDK -------------------------- Eric "Xanthen" Braun Lead Designer, Concept, Levels, Programming, Models, Skins Eric is the man.
