DESCRIPTION: QPed is a program to create new and edit existing .pak files for id Software's Quake. REQUIREMENTS: Windows 95 or Windows NT OpenGL dirvers or .dll's if using Windows 95 (pre OEM Service Pack 2) Registered copy of Quake (if you want to use edited .pak files) FILE LIST: The zip file should contain the following files: qped.exe QPed application readme.txt This file updates.txt Version fixes/feature info order.txt Ordering information qped.hlp qped.cnt Help files INSTALLATION: Just unzip the qped2.zip file into a directory of its own and double click on qped.exe QUICK START INSTRUCTIONS: Qped has been designed to work in a similar way to the Windows Explorer. It works in exactly the same way except for importing and exporting files from the .pak file. Files can be dragged into Qped and dropped into directories. This will copy the files into the .pak file. In the current version, this process cannot be reversed. To export a file from the .pak file, hilight the required file and select "File->Export". Currently, it is possible to "view" the following types of file .wav sounds .mdl, .md2 models .cfg, .rc text .lmp, .pcx pictures When viewing a model file, it is possible to move, zoom and rotate the model using the mouse, as well as the toolbar buttons. Dragging the mouse with the left button down rotates the .mdl. moving the mouse up and down with the right button down zooms in and out. Holding down the control key and the left button while moving the mouse moves the .mdl. Textures can be extracted from a .bsp file into a .wad file, ready for use in your favourite map editor. Simply select the .bsp file you want to extract the textures from and either pick "Extract Textures..." from the "Object" or from the right mouse button menu. Pete Callaway eMail : Pete@PlanetQuake.com Home Page : http://www.planetquake.com/qped/ FAQ: Q. I've replaced a file in pak0.pak and now Quake refuses to run. A. You must NEVER edit the .pak files that come with Quake. To replace, for example, the rocket launcher sound, create a new .pak file and create the sounds directory and then the weapons directory off of that. Then import the new sound into this new directory and rename it to rocket1i.wav. Save the .pak file as pak0.pak in a directory off of your Quake directory, eg "c:\games\quake\newsnd\pak0.pak". To check your new .pak file works, start Quake with the -game parameter, eg "quake -game newsnd". Q. When I try and view a .mdl file, the screen goes blue and my machine crashes. A. QPed needs to use fully implemented OpenGL drivers. The .dll files that come with GLQuake will not work with QPed. Download the full drivers from the QPed home page.
