S_MORGAN@delphi.com Adaptec 1542CF & Slowdown Aaron Turner multimedia-config... Michael Walker Scott in WV S_Morgan@Delphi.com ------------------------------- From: Aaron Turner Subject: Adaptec 1542CF & Slowdown Hi all, I got this wierd problem when I upgraded my SCSI card from a SB16 SCSI-2 (Adaptec 1510) to a 1542CF. I know about the problem about 0x330, so I set mine to 0x334. I disabled the SCSI card on the SB16, swapped ASPI2DOS for ASPI4DOS and that I assumed would be that. (The BIOS is disabled since I boot off an IDE, which doesn't really have the space for Falcon) Now when I run Falcon there are all these slowdowns and I haven't actually taken off yet! At the main menu, all the video has slown down to about 1 frame/sec (Instant Action, ACMI, CONFIG, RED FLAG, etc.) Quiting Falcon now takes about a FULL minute! This isn't spent spinning the disk either- the drive is only being accessed for a few seconds about 30secs of the way through. The first time this happend I thought my computer had locked up. Any ideas? I'm running a 486-66 w/ 6MB of EMS, 625K free. I don't have any problems with my SCSI drive or tape backup under DOS or Windows. Help! Hi, I'm sure I'm way behind the curve on this, but I just got a multimedia upgrade for my PC and am now struggling to find a way to get back the memory I need to run Falcon. Its a standard SB 16/ and Teac quad speed drive. Could some kind soul post some config and exec files, or tell me where I could find them archived to get me flying again? Oh, I'm running dos 5.0. Thanks, Mike ------------------------------- From: jmm0021@alamo.net (Jason Montgomery) Subject: What would be nice It would be intresting to see a flight sim where the ground combat was controled by an AI from one of the super-realistic wargames floating around. Of course the graphics engine needed to display that kind of detail would eat a PC alive but it would be nice. Jason Montgomery I want to go home. ------------------------------- From: tsaiello@hickup.pandr.com (Tim Aiello) Subject: Re: Mig29 vs Falcon Performance >From: michaelb@tenmail.mincom.oz.au (Michael Barnes) >Subject: Mig29 vs Falcon Performance > >The final conclusion of our top pilots - in High Fidelity, (with Blackout >OFF and Damage limiter ON, BTW) the Mig was greatly superior to the F16. (I >would like to see the test done with Blackout ON and Damage Limiting OFF for >a really conclusive result.) As I always suspected. I believe that we should be flying H2H with Blackout ON. Can't get the MIG pilots here to agree with me. They think it is too hard that way, but I say its more realistic and makes the H2H even.
