A smoky exhaust trail appeared from my engines! I could see it stretching back for miles and it showed my every move. Naturally I aborted the primary mission and treated my wingies to an aerobatic display of the lowest order. Since then I've often seen this effect with SAMs/AAMs but never on an a/c (excepting "Flame out ! Flame out!"). - Interesting piece in Aerospace magazine (house mag of the Royal Aero Soc.) about flight tests of an F16 with thrust vectoring, that allows it to pull off some nice tricks including transient pitch and yaw oscillations of up to 180 degs - rather nice if one of those pesky IA Mig19s is around! Interestingly the USAF guys thought that the manoeuvres themselves were less useful in combat (energy bleed?) than the a/c handling skills required to pull them off. - I don't know if this has been laid to rest yet, but it's still unanswered in the FAQ. In F3v3.04, wingies *will* land at alternate bases once they have begun to scream "fuel low". Be warned that alternate bases have included Kuwait City with Iraqis still in occupancy! - Finally, a nice trick from an AI. During a furball in a Serbian Fulcrum, instead of booming & zooming to out-turn me at 60000', an F15 driver dived for the deck - we levelled out in a valley at 60' AGL. What was odd was that for a minute or so he just drove along the valley in a gentle climb before he pulled up to rejoin the fight. Don't ask why I didn't go for the kill! My theory is that rather than trying to gain speed/altitude, his hands were shaking so hard he didn't dare touch the stick...
