Can any of you "real" fighter drivers answer? Yes, the F-16 radar provides this type of info to the pilot. > Add, also, information about Rmax1 and Rmax2 (within weapons parameters, but > marginal, and well within weapons paramters.) I'm unclear, though, if aspect and > closure rate are the main variables in Rmax1-Rmax2, or if there are other > factors to consider. Rmax1 is the range at which you can hit a non-maneuvering target given your and the target's current flight conditions (airspeed and altitude) and geometry. Rmax2 is the range at which you can hit a target executing a constant-speed, constant-altitude, 6.5g 180 degree turn from its current flight condition. This is also referred to as the "no escape" zone. Sorry for the long delay guys, been pretty busy. - Stuart ------------------------------- From: slb512@trainserv.fastc.wpafb.af.mil (stuart butts/taai/75033) Subject: Re: Basic flight questions > From: J.Hoppenbrouwers@kub.nl (JeroenHoppenbrouwers) > Subject: Basic flight questions (Stuart?!) > > How does a "real" F16 handle during the not-so-action-packed parts of a > mission? How do you taxi it? NWS? Yes, you use nosewheel steering to taxi, controlled through the rudder pedals. > Amount of used throttle? Max. kph during taxiing? Actually you just leave it at idle. From the chocks, you push the throttle up to get the aircraft rolling, but after it gets going, you really need to pull it back to idle or you'll exceed the 40 knot limit for taxiing. > Takeoff roll and initial climbing? For a MAX AB takeoff, it's a real kick in the pants when you light the burner on the roll. The aircraft really like to fly, so it gets up and goes on the initial climbout. Even MIL power takeoffs are impressive. > When are you allowed to break out the straight climb path and go for your > first waypoint? This really depends on what kind of flight plan you're on. It its IFR, ATC will tell you what to do and when to do it. If its VFR, as soon as you get to the end of the runway basically. Just don't hit anybody pretty much. :) > If you fly straight and level with no real turbulence or winds around, > and you let go of the controls, will the FBW hold your attitude or do you > eventually deviate? Yea it will fly pretty much straight and level. > Are you required to constantly make tiny corrections? No. For just flying from here to there it will basically do it by itself. > How much autopilot is kicked in during point-to-point transitions, especially > while flying in formation? It depends on what you turn on. There is a heading hold mode, altitude hold, etc. You pick how much of the autopilot you want to use. For close formation you won't use the autopilot at all. > Are you allowed to come back to the field with any ordnance under your wings > at all? Yea, just about anything you can load on the Viper, you can come back and land with it still there. Sorry for the long delay. - Stuart ------------------------------- From: "ANDREW LAVERY CALGARY ALBERTA," Subject: Falcon upgrades Hi all, Yesterday in a feat of sanity I picked up falcon 3.0 :) Anyway I noticed my version didn't have the CH FlightStick PRO compatibility that it should have... So i figured i'd have to upgrade, so I ftp'd to cactus.org and checked out the onion.rain.com mirror, and now I have one small question... Which upgrade do I need? Well, i'm off to read some more of the manual... Andrew Lavery (Msquito) laverya@abe.cbe.ab.ca / abe3@educ.ucalgary.ca ------------------------------- From: eshelbyk@ucs.orst.edu (Ken Eshelby) Subject: Serial H2H advantages- what gives? Recently, one of my roommates and I made a serial cable to reach between our rooms (success!). We've been playing both head2head and campaigns via 57K baud! It's a great change of pace from the 2400baud speed (we have 2 phone lines, and *had* to do it! My frustration is this, one of the planes always has the advantage. I believe it's the answerer that can always shoot better and turn faster. Each setup is the same (we've checked over and over again). The machines we are using have 40mhz 386DX's w/no coprocessor, one had 5mb ram, one has 2mb. Both are AMD chips. Eric's machine has a cheapo Trident card in it, I've got a SpeedStar 24X (he's got one coming in the mail). And I've got a PAS16, he's getting a SoundBlaster. I wouldn't think that any of that makes a difference as long as the machines are about the same speed. Is it the caller/answerer situation causing the unfair advantage? (we both use v2.02 patch) Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks a bunch for any help! ken - -- Ken Eshelby - Dietetics - Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon, USA ---> eshelbyk@ucs.orst.edu <--- (Notice: there is *nothing* to do with flying in my .sig!!!!) ------------------------------- From: masten@beta.lanl.gov (David A. Masten) Subject: Orchid Soundwave + F3 I haven't tried the Orchid Soundwave, so I can't offer much advice. But have you set the board to typical SB defaults (IRQ 7, DMA 1, address 220)? As a side note, F3 probably won't work all that well with non-Roland cards emulating the Roland music/effects. While F3 offers the option of SB plus Roland, most of the effects still come from the Roland side, if you choose that option. Only the digitized radio messages come from the SB (DAC) side. So guns, missiles, explosions, engine sound, etc, will come from the "Roland". This is fine if you use a Roland LAPC1/MT32 which has the sys-ex commands to handle this. But most any other board emulating Roland will give you bad effects, like a piano key for engines, or similar. I've hear the Orchid does some of the sys-ex commands, but even an Orchid rep said it wouldn't do too well with MT32 emulation. Should be just fine for general-midi which is used by newer games, but not F3 (actually, I've heard that the Orchid doesn't sound all that great compared to other wavetable g-midi cards too). I tried a Gravis Ultrasound with F3. While it gave excellent sounding music, the sound effects were so bad, I just switched back to SB+SB. Summary, for F3 (and Tornado), if you don't have a Roland LAPC1 or MT32, just choose SB+SB. Dave masten@beta.lanl.gov ------------------------------- From: SHOCKEME@DELPHI.DASD.HONEYWELL.COM Subject: How fast is IHHD with Falcon3? I've recently been reading about the IHHD and joined their newsgroup, but I've been wondering about the transmission speed of the Falcon3.2 patch using the IHHD. Question for those of you who have used the IHHD and Falcon3: What is it like at different speeds ie 2400, 9600 etc and relationship between machine speed ie 25Mhz, 33 Mhz, 66 Mhz. Thanks Steve. ------------------------------- [[ End of digest Volume 5 : Issue 22 ]]
