After managing to damage the (non-existant) ordnance and the flaps (stuck at a config for about 600 kts) I decided to test the speedand altitude limits. So I managed to point the nose up, lit the AB to max, and shot upwards to about 65K feet, where I began to lose speed and eventually stalled. I recovered from this and began the speed test. This got awee bit out of hand when the only way to keep the nose up was to turn upsidedown (I reached a speed of ~1025 kts 8); I pushed a little too hard on the stick, and suddenly, (with NO "caution! caution!" from the Bitchin' Babushka), the plane was utterly out of control and dropping like a stone; the initial stages were VERY remiscent of the spin a fully-swept Tornado gets into. This calmed down - as I hit thicker air?? - into a 90 degree banked, nose slightly down, attitude, with the plane heading towards the nose but with the tail preceeding the nose in an negative pitch rotation. (IE as if pushing the nose down with the stick, but the tail rotates around the nose.) After figuring out what was going on, I had the presence of mind to turn on the AVTR, and got what I thought at first was quite a long tape - but it turns out to be about three seconds long. I'll try to upload it to onion.rain.com - it's still pretty amusing. Set the view to external and independent, and watch the plane do its thing. It ends when I decided I wanted to eject - the alarming view overriding my scientific curiosity - sorry, folks. 8) I'll try to reproduce this without damaging the plane first, and see if I can find arecovery procedure. If any of you do, please let me know. James Sterrett jjsterre@acs.ucalgary.ca ------------------------------- From: jjsterre@acs.ucalgary.ca Subject: More on Spins To induce a spin in your MiG-29, try the following: Pitch up c. 90 degrees, cut throttle, apply airbrakes when the nose begins to wander, keep maximum stick pressure back, and apply max left or right rudder maintain theseas the nose falls past the horizon and through to a down pitch of 90 degrees... This doesn't always seem to work, but I've induced a spin several times now with it. To escape a spin in your MiG-29: This is a _lot_ less certain! Roll in the direction of the spin and apply nose-down on the stick; this worked once - and only once. 8( I didn't play with the throttle; being a bad test pilot, I forgot about the airbrakes being on too. If anybody finds a reliable procedure, speak up! 8) The tape I uploaded may or may not show the spin correctly.... I get the spin I remember about half the time viewing it. As hasbeen reported here, I think, MiG-29 VCR tapes are unreliable. I tried to get more/better spin, spin induction, and spin recovery footage, but it's almost all junk. If somebody knows how to edit the tapes (how to cut them, basically) them maybe some of it would be useful. Every reference mark, however, brings about a warp in aircraft position and situation. 8( 8( James Sterrett jjsterre@acs.ucalgary.ca ------------------------------- From: "Mellum Ron" Subject: Falcon MC I realize that this isn't directly a F3 question (so I'll take it off line ASAP), but can anyone tell me anything about it. I have a Quadra 700 (etcha-sketch) here at work. I run F3 at home on my clone. So, I'm thinking that perhaps I'd like to try Falcon MC. That is if it's worth it. The problem with this request is that (once again) the .VCR file formats have been rendered incompatible, so unless you already have MiG-29 you can't watch any of the tapes. :-) Maybe it'd be better to see a demo at the store. Or maybe best of all to just TRUST US and go out and buy it! :-) :-) - -- Tom Neff tneff@mimiki.win.net ------------------------------- From: John Asa Price Subject: Objects Sobjects??? It adds a few things like twin pipes on twin engined planes instead of a single large black square. Some people like to do this but I find it to be rather useless. Adding the little graphic details makes falcon3 no better to me. I think F3 kinda proved Commanche: Max Overkill graphics are not needed to make an excellent flight sim. But when the technology gets here....... To do this: copy sobjects sobjects.bak copy objects sobjects This will create a backfile of your sobjects file for disaster purposes :-) and then copy the larger objects file to your sobjects file. I can't remeber the extensions though I am pretty sure there are none. I do not *think* I have these backwards (99%). Another method is to loadhigh Falcon3. Loadhigh falcon3 This used to work with DOS 5.0 I haven't tried it with DOS 6. *****Use these at your own risk. Falcon3 is persnickety as it is, start messing with things and you risk angering the computer gods!
