(This is probably how the maps in MAPSF3V2.ZIP were constructed). Go to your mission planning screen in the campaign or red flag area and display the map at the desired zoom factor. Then ... 1. Press [ALT]/[N] to take a snapshot of the screen (similiar to the Falcon debug mode). A file called FALCON3.nnn is created (nnn is the next number available in the range 000 to 999). 2. Exit Falcon. 3. Load a screen grabber (I use the excellent PCXDUMP, which is available on wuarchive.wustl.edu in /mirrors/msdos/graphics or on oak.oakland.edu in /pub/msdos/graphics). 4. Type SHOWF3 FALCON3.nnn to display the screen snapshot. 5. Press your hotkey sequence to grab the screen and dump it to a file. (In PCXDUMP the keys are [SHFT]/ALT]/[C] to dump to a PCX file). 6. This file can then be edited in paint or graphics editor (such as Paintbrush or CorelDraw!) to add place names to the map icons. I've found this really useful during the mission planning stage of my campaigns. It lets me see where my targets, bingo fields etc are during a mission. John Threadgill New Zealand Forest Research Institute threadgj@fri.cri.nz ------------------------------- From: knutson@mcc.com (Jim Knutson) Subject: Re: Altitude and Fuel Economy It's quite common to use hi-lo-hi profiles in real life (then again it's quite common to have air refueling as well). However, I haven't found hi-lo-hi to work very well in Falcon. It usually means I get detected and intercepted earlier. Your milage may vary :-). This is really a strategic as well as tactical issue. By burning larger amounts of fuel at lower altitudes, you may limit the number of flights or A/C per flight later on when fuel supplies are getting low. I don't expect there will be any one right answer. This means that any amount of memory you allocate over 5MB using EMM386 is useless and would be better allocated to a disk cache.
