I don't want super details, just what the F16 flight model and weapons models are like. I have read many posts over a commercial service and it seems a 50/50 split on the GAME. Only problem, many of the commentators have zero credibility. A very major gripe many have is the "sickenly slow frame rate even on a 486/33 w/ 8mb and a Diamond SS 24X" So do any of you out there have this one? I really don't have any interest unless someone jumps up and says how great it is for its realistic whatever. Just think, for the space of that one game, I could fit BOTH Tornado and Mig 29. That sounds much better ;^) Scott in West "by God" Virginia ------------------------------- From: sean.kerns@sdrc.com (Sean R. I think it would be in keeping with the spirit of the list to expand the charter to something that would include any virtual battlefield filght sims. I don't think we want to include all wargames - I think this list is oriented toward flight sims. Ath the same time, I don't think we should exclude any quality bettle flight sim just because SH didn't write it. I for one don't want to be alt.fan.spectrum.holobyte. Let's keep it to virtual battlefield flight sims of quality by any manufacturer. Sean ------------------------------- From: tneff@mimiki.win.net (Tom Neff) Subject: Adding Warthog et al. When A-10 Warthog comes out, it will be part of Spectrum Holobyte's Electronic Battlefield Series (EBS). Right now Falcon 3.0 is the only EBS game in existence; even other sims SpecHolo distributes, like Tornado, are not part of it. (MiG-29 Adversary is an add-on disk to Falcon 3.0, not a separate game.) I would prefer that this list stick to the EBS as its focus. If that ends up needing a slight name change, so be it, although there would be less heartache if the email alias stayed the same. If someone wants to start a new mailing list about other sims, feel free. That's my $0.02. By the way, I'm getting a "Reply-To: uunet!falcon3" in the header of this digest now, instead of "uunet!onion.rain.com!falcon3". Did you work out an explicit aliasing arrangement with UUNET, or is the header getting mangled? If the former, I have a couple of lists I'd love them to alias for me... [[ ACK! Not! I've been collecting any info I find worth keeping there. You can access the flight_sim wais library by telnetting to quake.think.com, login as wais and select the flight_sim "source". Use something like "strike commander review" as your question. By the way, information on many other flight sims can be found there as well. Speaking of the a-10 warthog game, and other spectrum sims.. I was wondering what the estimated release date of their Mig-29 simulator is going to be? Hopefully Spectrum will do a better job getting their software out on time than Origin did with Strike Commander.. =) =-Dave *Tigger!* djohnson@moose.uvm.edu 'Tiggers are wonderful things!' Here's the announcement: From: darons@netcom.com (Daron Stinnett) Subject: ---> MIG-29 <--- NEW SIM FROM SPECTRUM HOLOBYTE Date: Thu, 25 Feb 1993 03:08:35 GMT I just wanted to announce Spectrum HoloByte's next sim release -- MiG-29. MiG-29 will be a add-on product to Falcon 3.0 and will allow the user to fly all campaigns (Falcon 3.0 & OFT) from the enemy's perspective. Here are some of the highlights: * Head-to-head and multi-player coms. Six players with any combination of MiGs and F-16s can fly against each other in either H2H or campaign mode. For example, if the F-16s are given a mission to destroy an enemy air strip, the MiG-29 group will be given the mission to protect the air strip. Each side can setup their own tactics to accomplish the mission. * NEW FLIGHT MODEL - We have redone our flight model from scratch. Everything including non-fly-by-wire characteristics, spins, tail slides, separated control surfaces has been implimented. You will find that it takes a lot more finess to control this plane in a dogfight. For instance, the MiG-29 has amazing nose athority, which means that you when you are turning circles in a dogfight, by cranking your stick back you should be able to point your nose at your opponent, however your high AOA will cause you to blead speed at a rapid rate and you will be a sitting duck if you don't get a kill. In the hands of a good pilot, the MiG-29 can out perform the F-16 but an inexperienced pilot will get shot down every time. * REALISTIC AVIONICS - We are pulling out the stops in this area. I expect that the avionics will be more accurately portrayed in the game than any where else including books and video. We are working with Soviet fighter pilots as well as the Department Of Defence to make it as accurate as possible. Some of the features: IRST (including head mounted viariant), Functional guages, realistic HUD, and systems failure. We are expecting to release this in June. Please feel free to email me any comments. darons@netcom.com ------------------------------- [[ End of digest Volume 3 : Issue 10 ]]
