Seems the master machine always almost immediately destroyed the slave machine every time. It wasn't even very fun to watch.... Both machines were IBM 486's 33Mhz. Perhaps I should try it without any missiles... -John Price ------------------------------- From: spot@clank.optron.ingr.com (Scott Wood) Subject: Head-2-Head Head-2-Head ideas: (that may have been hashed before) Is there any way to defeat the serial number check that keeps you from playing H2H with a single copy of the program? And how does Compu$erve (and others) allow players to link with each other (for H2H play) thru_their_services? This seems like something we ought to work-out for our own use. Hosting fly-ins would be great! If you've got the modems... Another route would be to hack Falcon to run over TCP/IP (I have no idea how this could be done -- esp. without the source!) Then we could fly over the Internet (bandwidth permitting!). I seem to remember a way of redirecting data from the serial port to a network driver -- this was done in a multi-player shareware game called NetSpace. (I'll find more info on this...once again you'ld probably need the source.) Speaking of H2H mode, has anyone investigated *exactly* what data is passed back and forth between Falcons (over whatever medium they're connected thru)? It would be interesting to simulate a H2H session *without* another Falcon... If this stuff has been discussed before, point me to it please. - Scott "spot" Wood ------------------------------- From: jwthomas@audi.dazixca.ingr.com (John Thomas X6450) Subject: joystick stability Greetings: I have great difficulty holding any particular orientation for more than about a second. If I let go of the stick, the plane either starts slowly rolling or, more often, it quickly drops a wing! Even when trying to turn, it's eratic - sometimes following my stick movements, other times exaggerating them! Needless to say, trying to land gets real exciting and, actually, is virtually impossible. Trying to get a bead on the bad guys is just about as bad. I've "calibrated" and recalibrated but nothing seems to help. My game card can be set to different frequencies but none seem to help. I've got Falcon3.0d (July,1992), which according to the hotline has the latest stability fixes. I've got a 486DX33, with a Csoft game card (I usually run it at 30 or 35MHZ setting), and an Analog joystick. Do I need a better card/joystick, or different hardware or software settings of some kind? I can't believe that it's just the way F3 is.... Anybody got a clue, have similar setups, or similar problems? Thanks in advance for any help. cheers, jt *********************************************************************** John W. Well, I asked about adding FAC (Forward Air Control) support in and here's the reply. ----- Begin Included Message ----- >From 76004.2144@compuserve.com Thu Mar 11 11:37:57 1993 Date: 11 Mar 93 12:30:51 EST From: Atlas/Spectrum HoloByte <76004.2144@compuserve.com> To: Subject: Falcon 3.0 Jim, Thanks for your suggestion. We have considered adding that feature to Falcon 3.0, but cannot find the space for it in the program. We would have to eliminate at least two other features in order to try to implement a FAC feature. It is under consideration for Warthog A-10, but that game is still in development and I will not know what features will be in the game until very late in the development cycle. Thanks again for the suggestion, Atlas ----- End Included Message ----- ------------------------------- [[ End of digest Volume 2 : Issue 65 ]]
