I >don't know if this is true so maybe you guys can confirm/deny this. Yup, it's definitely worth the money. You get three new theatres, new planes to fly against, *LOTS AND LOTS* more excellent digitized speech, greater control over missions (for instance the new SEAD waypoint definition - Supress Enemy Air Defenses...intended for SAM killing etc), several bug fixes over 3.0D and rules of engagement. ROE is quite tricky - there are several stages of ROE which progress as the war escalates. To start off you're only allowed to "spook" the enemy - that means high tension dogfights - no missiles!!! You might get a few bullets in the tail pipe, but that's ok. :-) The idea is to frighten the enemy into bugging-out - but this goes for both sides of course! For this reason you should only take the very best pilots for these air-2-air missions (forget anyone with a flying ability lower than 98!) Oh, and before I forget, you also get a 150 page manual with OFT. > I've heard people say that their Falcon 3.0D worked but when they switched >to OFT, it crashes on them... I've not heard that myself. You do need about 2K extra of conventional - it may be the memory configuration. Squeezing those few extra bytes can be difficult. I'm currently running without SmartDrv to get the extra high-detail planes. Anyone seen a disk cache that'll fit into 8K!? Mike. ------------------------------- From: "John J. Wiseman" Subject: sound disappointing This may sound silly, but have those with soundcards ever tried playing just with the internal speaker enabled? I've played Falcon for over a year with nothing but the internal speaker, and when I got an SBPro 2 weeks ago I was rather un- derwhelmed by the "new" sound. On the internal speaker, radio messages sounded appropriate- ly garbled and "staticy". Now they sound like they're being spo- ken by somewhat bored programmers sitting in a cubicle. Switch- ing to afterburner lacks the "oomph" it used to have. Even mis- sle launches sound wimpy. I think the only thing that is a de- finite improvement is the gun sounds and the sounds of "close misses" by other planes. Maybe I'm just crazy... John ------------------------------- From: knutson@mcc.com (Jim Knutson) Subject: Re: Postscript files & the Usenet Guide to Falcon I was able to view the PostScript files using ghostscript. However, I had to also load the ghostscript fonts (from a seperate tar file). I did not testing printing, but I assume that works. There are a couple of problems with previewing rather than printing. 1. The postscript is a reverse print of the document (last page first) so it's kind of hard to read the book backwards. 2. Sequential paging. I didn't see a way to jump around so you would have render each page on the screen one at a time to get where you wanted to go. I think the best thing would be to use ghostscript to print the book. Then read it. I thought about offering to print and mail copies for people, but I've already done that once and I don't think I really have the time and facilities to do that any more. Perhaps someone else out there wouldn't mind doing so. Hi all, and greetings from OZ. I have a few slight technical problems and I was wondering if anyone can help me to solve them. The problem is this: In OZ product release is truly slow, and things are really expensive. For example, a thrustmaster is about US$200 here. So, what I would like is someone nice to go shopping for me. (Mail order). Now, if anyone would do this I would be truly grateful. My only other problem is trying to play falcon upside down. (We being on the bottom of the world down here, it makes flying difficult if you drop the joystick). [[ FYI, I've already offered my assistance to Charles. --Jeff ]] Happy flying.
