Jeff Beadles ------------------------------------------------------------ From: sture@Sweden.Sun.COM (Sture Nystrand - Sun Sweden - PM SunOS / OS Ambassador) Subject: Problem when installing Anyone seen this before? I got some problem with Falcon 3.0 The machine is an Intel PC, 386/16, 4 Mb memmory, VGA, Soundblaster, Adaptec 1542 SCSI Cntrl, Dos 5 and QEMM. I install the software and after the 5:th disk under "reintegrating split files" I got several error messages like this: .\media\~1anm8 cannot open .\media\~1anm8 .\media\~1anm9 cannot open .\media\~1anm9 .\~1victory.dat cannot open .\~1victory.dat .\~1drawtext cannot open .\~1drawtext .\~1dgdemo cannot open .\~1dgdemo .\~1smapobj.irq cannot open .\~1smapobj.irq .\~1mapobj.irq cannot open .\~1mapobj.irq I then look at the files in directory FALCON3 and indeed the file size is zero. .\dgdemo 0 .\htlinfbk.bin 0 .\smapobj.irq 0 .\mapobj.irq 0 .\drawtext 0 .\smapobj.isr 0 .\victory.dat 0 .\media\anm8 0 .\media\ánm9 0 If I start the program it goes just black and I must do a hard reset. Do you think I got some bad disks? Sorry >if this sounds a bit silly but I didn't follow all the original posts... > > Oh, and how much does it cost (roughly)! > >Jay The Thrustmaster FCS (Flight Control System) is a close replica of the F-15 (yes, 15) control stick. It includes many controls beyond those of a simple joystick (coolie hat and several additional buttons). I got mine at Egghead for US$79. It is really worth the high price for the realism it adds to Falcon3. A small TSR that Thrustmaster sells is called "Pilot's Edge". It allows you to remap the functions of the FCS. This is for sale from Thrustmaster for US$17.95 including S+H. The WCS (Weapon Control System) is also from Thrustmaster. It is a keyboard that happens to look like a throttle (again from the F-15?). This plugs into the keyboard port of your PC and your own keyboard plugs into the WCS. So far, this does not have a program to remap the keystrokes that are generated by moving the throttle or pressing any of the many butttons on the WCS. Once again, I got mine at Egghead for US$79, also well worth the price for the additional realism. -Bob ------------------------------- From: knutson@mcc.com (Jim Knutson) Subject: ---> MIG-29 <--- NEW SIM FROM SPECTRUM HOLOBYTE This came through on USENET today: Xref: milano comp.sys.ibm.pc.games:38112 rec.aviation.simulators:1326 Newsgroups: comp.sys.ibm.pc.games,rec.aviation.simulators Path: milano!cs.utexas.edu!swrinde!gatech!darwin.sura.net!sgiblab!pacbell.com!amdahl!netcomsv!netcom.com!darons From: darons@netcom.com (Daron Stinnett) Subject: ---> MIG-29 <--- NEW SIM FROM SPECTRUM HOLOBYTE Message-ID: <1993Feb25.030835.28413@netcom.com> Organization: Netcom - Online Communication Services (408 241-9760 guest) Date: Thu, 25 Feb 1993 03:08:35 GMT Lines: 35 I just wanted to announce Spectrum HoloByte's next sim release -- MiG-29. MiG-29 will be a add-on product to Falcon 3.0 and will allow the user to fly all campaigns (Falcon 3.0 & OFT) from the enemy's perspective. Here are some of the highlights: * Head-to-head and multi-player coms. Six players with any combination of MiGs and F-16s can fly against each other in either H2H or campaign mode. For example, if the F-16s are given a mission to destroy an enemy air strip, the MiG-29 group will be given the mission to protect the air strip. Each side can setup their own tactics to accomplish the mission. * NEW FLIGHT MODEL - We have redone our flight model from scratch. Everything including non-fly-by-wire characteristics, spins, tail slides, separated control surfaces has been implimented. You will find that it takes a lot more finess to control this plane in a dogfight. For instance, the MiG-29 has amazing nose athority, which means that you when you are turning circles in a dogfight, by cranking your stick back you should be able to point your nose at your opponent, however your high AOA will cause you to blead speed at a rapid rate and you will be a sitting duck if you don't get a kill. In the hands of a good pilot, the MiG-29 can out perform the F-16 but an inexperienced pilot will get shot down every time. * REALISTIC AVIONICS - We are pulling out the stops in this area. I expect that the avionics will be more accurately portrayed in the game than any where else including books and video. We are working with Soviet fighter pilots as well as the Department Of Defence to make it as accurate as possible. Some of the features: IRST (including head mounted viariant), Functional guages, realistic HUD, and systems failure. We are expecting to release this in June. Please feel free to email me any comments. darons@netcom.com ------------------------------- From: Andrew.Stevens@prg.oxford.ac.uk Subject: Is the List alive?
