With HiFi radar, the blip moves all over the place, and you can't lock on it. Guess this is the type of ECM that broadcasts false radar images. >No TWI indication, no nothing. I believe this is so. When the F-15 escorts fly on ahead of me, I get no TWI blip, but when they fly past me on their way back to base, I get a blip. >Can you see an enemy's radar if it is just in search mode as >opposed to tracking you? This is hard to say. With 3.0D I was sometimes able to sneak up on bandits when my radar was just in NAM, but I haven't been able to do it in 3.01 or 3.01.1. I do know that even if I get a TWI blip, the plane that's painting me may just continue to fly straight and level, rather than pointing straight at me in an attack stance, for example. The best test would be to try it out over a modem or direct link. >Is that what is happening when it momentarily >displayed on your TWI? I don't know whether they *act* differently or not, but I do know that if a type 5 radar ("Long Track") has been painting you continuously for a long period of time, there is a good chance that a slew of SA-2s are closing on you and will go active just a few miles away from you. >Note that all the radars of the new OFT planes disagree with the manual. >One especially bad case is giving the Jaguar a type 1 radar, not bad >for an attack plane! Wondering if this matters game wise. My guess is that it's mostly informative, but I suppose it could be that better radars are harder to spoof. >Dave Masten >masten@beta.lanl.gov Rob opus@ihlpl.att.com ------------------------------- From: jeff@onion.rain.com (Jeff Beadles) Subject: Re: Falcon3 linkup (1-800-AIR-ACES) I just talked to Mike Drake, who is running the network of Falcon3 fliers. He was rather excited to hear that the message is getting out, and asked if I would resend his message once per month. (I will) Anyway, he is really interested in having people call in, start to build a list of people who want to fly together. We chatted for around 10 minutes, on various flying topics. I'd highly recomend giving Mike a call at 1-800-AIR-ACES (1-800-247-2237). They're also putting together a (snail) mailing list. -Jeff - -- Jeff Beadles jeff_beadles@mentorg.com +1 503 685 7000 x3077 C-4118 Mentor Graphics Synthesis Group -- Wilsonville, Oregon ------------------------------- [[ End of digest Volume 1 : Issue 33 ]]
